LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Western Star Truck Sales is featuring two models of the new 5700XE Class 8 highway tractor at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

Headquartered in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Western Star is a division of Daimler Trucks North America. Production of the 5700XE will begin in the second quarter at a manufacturing plant in Cleveland, North Carolina.

The company unveiled the new tractor for journalists late last year. Western Star announced its intention to develop a model at last year’s MATS, where its “Optimus Prime” tractor from the Transformers movie garnered significant attention from show attendees.

The XE stands for “extreme efficiency,” and Western Star is offering powertrain options from Daimler’s Detroit subsidiary.

On March 27, Western Star will hand over the keys to a new 5700XE to the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. The truck will pull OOIDA’s “Spirit of the American Trucker” tour trailer to shows, conferences and truck stops.
