TT Archives: U.S. to Reduce Dependence on Foreign Oil

This headline in the Jan. 20, 1975 edition of Transport Topics reflects one of many steps taken by the United States to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil following the Arab oil embargo in 1973.

That goal may finally be within reach as the U.S. is poised to surpass Saudi Arabia as the world’s largest oil producer in 2015 and could become a net exporter of crude oil.
