FedEx will hire 2,600 people in Memphis to help meet peak season demand.

The Memphis hires will be among more than 50,000 additional employees needed companywide to move what’s anticipated to be another record volume in November and December. Growth in e-commerce is fueling the higher volume.

The hires will include 1,000 at the FedEx Express world hub in Memphis and 1,600 at FedEx Ground facilities.

FedEx ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest North American for-hire carriers.

The peak season hiring is part of an ongoing push to keep the Memphis hub fully staffed.

FedEx has held at least four job fairs seeking hub workers since January, billing the events as opportunities to fill anywhere from 600 to 1,000 jobs.

The company has attributed hiring pushes to the ebb and flow of staffing a round-the-clock FedEx Express hub that employs more than 10,000 and handles more than 1 million packages on an average night.

Rival UPS expects to hire about 95,000 for the holiday surge.
